Matchy Matchy or Mixed

Matchy Matchy or Mixed

Hmmm… maybe a taste of both.¬†Here’s the bedroom furniture that I’m thinking about?

What do you think? The collection was made in Germany. Typically, I don’t like a room to have furniture combinations that are matchy matchy, but in Mini Realm I like having sets that are complete. So I’m feeling torn. I like the thought that it’s a collection that’s still complete, after being handed down from mother to daughter, generation to generation, for over 60 years. I really like that thought. I’m going to try to make it work. I’ll bring the mix in, some other way.

The mirror is cracked on the wardrobe, but I’m OK with things that show their age. In today’s dollhouse furniture, you would never find a real mirror. It would be considered a liability, unless it was specified for adult collectors only. That’s another reason to accept it’s flaw. It’s a real mirror!

The wood has a tight grain. It looks like oak, but it also has a burled striation that’s unfamiliar to me. Could this be what’s referred to as quarter sawn? I’m not an expert on wood grain, but I enjoy natural materials.

I love German made dollhouse furniture from the 40’s and 50’s. They did such a fabulous job of reflecting the current style of the day for their “young designers”. Classic Mid Century Modern still has a strong influence on today’s contemporary furniture. It’s so easy to incorporate with today’s current expressions.

I’m hoping that the bedroom will have room for a reading nook. This slipper chair will need re upholstering. The fabric is terry cloth.

Here’s a place for me to experiment with keeping it’s vintage authenticity while updating the appearance. I’m going to try pinning new fabric in place. The foot stool will need a cushion. And don’t you love the chandelier? I won’t be wiring anything… not with my first dollhouse. I’m not up for that challenge… not yet.

Giant Decree: In Mini Realm, the citizens know how to disagree with fairness and respect. Everyone is ¬†encouraged to communicate ideas and opinions, from their own unique viewpoint. When agreement occurs, it’s genuine.

Thoughts, comments?

I love the bedroom furniture! It is so cute. I haven’t had much luck finding furniture that I like for my house. I mainly look in antique shops. Everything I find is to small or to expensive. There is no way I will finish my house anytime soon, but I am okay with that. I want to keep it fun. I am just going to take as much time as I need. :) Thanks for stopping by my blog!

      Hi Jessie,
Settling into your new place has got to be your focus right now. It’s a lot of hard work to move.
I entered the challenge late, but I’m going to try to meet the deadline. You’re right it has to be fun. The best part is meeting a lot of creative people who enjoy miniatures.
Thanks for stopping by. I’ll be checking in on your blog. Karen

That mirror is really cool, cracked and all. I love the set. But what dollhouse are you putting this in? The furniture is going to look fab!

Thank you, I love that bedroom set. Yikes I just remembered it needs some bedding. I better do some overtime. The house I’m putting it in, is the one I pictured in the post titled Mini Mix. It needs a major remodel. I’m going to be busy.
